Bocce Committee


Bocce meeting minutes for October 29, 2008 at 1pm

Present were: Nelson Glueck, Jeri Glueck, Pat Smart, John Bracco, Bob Briney, Helga Puccinelli and Gail Shaw.

We talked about the Bocce Extravaganza that is scheduled for Friday November 14th at 4pm. Gail mentioned that we had around 24 people signed up so far. The food is being ordered from Nino’s the same as we did last year. Sign up deadline is November 10th.

Pat mentioned that for the March Madness event residents need to sign up by February 16th. Nelson will talk about the event at the February UOC meeting.

The staff vs residents’ event will take place on Wednesday April 1st. We will have 2 groups of 8, the first group to play at 1pm and the second group to play at 2:30pm.

The Battle of Sexes is scheduled for Wednesday February 11th at 9:30am. Helga will be the contact person for the ladies and we are looking for someone to be the contact person for the men. Sign up deadline for that is January 21st.

John brought the possibility in the future of putting something at the front door for handicap people to be able to open the doors. He mentioned that one of our residents, who is in a wheel chair, could not open the door himself because they were too heavy.

Next meeting date is Tuesday December 9th at 1pm.


Minutes of October 18, 2006 PLCA Bocce Committee Meeting

Meeting was attended by: Wes Stillwaggon, Nelson Glueck, Jim Janek, John Bracco & Gail Shaw.

Wes Stillwaggon distributed a draft of Bocce Rules & Regulations. There was a review of each item and several changes were made. The rules will be reviewed again at our next meeting.

There was a lengthy discussion on Bocce court maintenance and watering. It was noted that maintenance consisting of racking, rolling, and brushing the court twice daily was not being done. It was suggested that Fredie or Dave could be responsible for maintenance and that a daily schedule must be established. Gail to follow up with Marie on maintenance responsibilities and getting maintenance assigned and scheduled. It was also noted that training in proper court maintenance would be required and that maintenance instructions procedures should be developed.

Wes discussed the ladies and men’s league. Jeri Glueck is working with the ladies and have been playing all summer. The men’s league has only meet two or three times and has not continued play. Wes mentioned that a couple’s league plays on Sat and has been established by Pat & Bill Smart. Wes also mentioned that he challenged the UOC to start an inter-community league, that the Monday afternoon league will start play in late November. Also starting in January will be an intra-community league of several communities.

The next meeting of the Bocce Committee will be held on Wednesday November 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the tennis center. It also was agreed that committee meetings would be held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
 


March 1, 2006 Bocce Committee Meeting Minutes

Meeting was attended by: Anthony Fabiano, Wes Stillwaggon, Ed Kenyon, Bob Briney, Nelson Glueck, Jeri Glueck, & Gail Shaw.

Wes Stillwaggon said he would take on the responsibility of committee chair but would have to free up his calendar and make room for this. He indicated that he will not be available from April through September and would do his best during this period and that members shouldn’t expect much.

Gail passed out several documents that the committee members are required to fill out and sign, one was the PLCA Policies and Procedures and the other was Conflict of Interest.

Bocce court maintenance was discussed and watering. It was noted that the courts are to dry and that the system was not working properly. It was suggested that a hose and reel should be purchased and that the courts should be watered by hand.

It was also suggested that a procedure guideline for court maintenance should be developed that would include a schedule for raking, brushing and rolling.

Nelson went over the following pending items on court construction and provided status:

1.       Composite side wall boards - shipping expected next week.

2.       Court leveling - to be completed with the installation composite sidewalls.

3.       Scoreboards - on order, manufacturer had a problem with PLCA logo, a new logo has been provided, shipping is expected by the end of the month.

4.       Canopy on north side has been approved by PIC. Tom Betts to provide canopy high to PIC. Canopy expected to ship in 12-14 weeks after order received by manufacturer.

5.       Benches are in place and will be secured to ground shortly.

6.       Foot washer has been installed.

7.       Committee is required to provide a three-year plan and budget to the PLCA. This was required before the start of today’s meeting. Gail indicated that Marie is working on this and will provide the information. We will be required to provide any input we may have to Gail.

8.       Nelson will check with the district on additional shrubs around the Bocce area.

There was a brief discussion on each of the above items.

The committee discussed the establishment of a women and men’s league. Gail said over 100 people signed up for bocce at the grand opening. It was agreed that the women’s league would kick off on Tue 3/7 at 11 AM and the men’s on Wed 3/8 at 11 AM. Bob Briney and Jeri Glueck would work with and help the women and Wes Stillwaggon and Ed Kenyon would do the same for men. Leagues would play each Tue and Wed respectively for a 5 or 6 week period.

Gail asked that a committee for the April 10 Bonita Bay Challenge be formed.

The next meeting of the Bocce Committee will be held on March 29, 2006 at 2 PM in the Community Center.
